Melbourne Japanese Summer Festival

The Melbourne Japanese Summer Festival will once again return to Federation Square in February 2019.

The festival also honours the tradition of the Obon, a festival held in Japan to give thanks to one’s ancestors, which includes the traditional Bon Dance. There will also be exciting activities such as Best Dressed Awards, and a raffle among traditional festival games such as yo-yo and toy-fishing. This year, the prize will be a pair of Economy tickets to Tokyo!

Experience the vibrancy of Japanese culture from a variety of performances including local song and dance groups. This festival will not only be featuring traditional acts such as Taiko drumming and Okinawan folk music, but also contemporary dance performances and a debut bilingual talk show.

The beautiful River Terrace will be lined with stalls offering a delicious, authentic taste of Japan. From the classic festival favourites like takoyaki, okonomiyaki and karaage, to snow cones and Japanese beer to relieve a hot summer day, there is something for everyone. For the creative and fashionable ones, there will be plenty of arts and crafts to purchase too.
